Odisha bags Rs 1,200 cr from lease deeds

Out of 29 leases, supplementary lease deeds have been signed for 19 mines

The state government has raked in Rs 1,200 crore by executing supplementary lease deeds for 19 mining leases.

"Out of 29 leases, supplementary lease deeds have been signed for 19 mines. The state government has got Rs 1,200 crore revenue from execution of these deeds. We hope that lease deeds for the balance 10 mines will be signed within the stipulated period of three months," said state steel & mines minister Prafulla Mallick.

Tata Steel, Rungta Mines, Fee-grade & Company Ltd, Odisha Manganese & Minerals Ltd (OMM) and Aryan Mining & Trading Corporation Ltd (AMTC) are amongst the mine owners that have signed the supplementary lease deeds to restart operations of their mines.

In toto, the state government has issued orders to extend the lease validity of 29 mines- 21 captive and 8 non-captive mines. Out of the 29 leases, 25 are iron and manganese ore mines.

On April 18, the government had issued orders for extending the lease validity of 26 mines as per the new mining regulation - Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 2015. The state issued similar orders for extending validity of three more mines on May 2.

The mine owners were allowed three months' time (from the date of issue of orders) to sign supplementary lease deeds.
