A special CBI court here today granted conditional bail to K Mehfuz Ali Khan, an accused in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) scam involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy.

Khan, the personal assistant of Reddy and the seventh accused in the OMC case, had earlier filed a bail application which was allowed by the court today.

He was asked to submit two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each, to surrender his passport and not to leave the country without informing the court. Khan should not visit the mining areas in Bellary in Karnataka and Anantapur and Kadapa districts in Andhra Pradesh and should not try to influence the witnesses or tamper with evidence, Khan's counsel Sheik Kasim Saheb said informing about other conditions.

Khan was charged with offences of criminal conspiracy and cheating by CBI in its charge sheet filed in the court on January 2, 2013.

The central agency had accused Khan of not only facilitating the offence but of also being a partner in the acts of the main accused (Reddy) in illegal mining.

Khan, also an accused in the Associated Mining Company (AMC) scam along with Janardhan Reddy and others, was brought to Hyderabad on September 25 last year and is under judicial remand here.

He had earlier surrendered before a court in Bengaluru on March 2012.

Janardhan Reddy and his brother-in-law Srinivasa Reddy, both accused in OMC case, were earlier granted bail by the Supreme Court and the Hyderabad High Court, respectively.
