A manager and a cashier of public sector bank were arrested here on Friday for allegedly charging money for "replacing" demonetised currency notes.

Parveen Kumar, a resident of Rama Mandi, had lodged a police complaint saying the bank manager, Manish Bharti, and cashier, Gaurav Garg, allegedly charged Rs 20,000 from him for "replacing" demonetised currency notes, police said.

The complainant alleged that he was given Rs 80,000 in new currency notes after giving the accused Rs 1 lakh in demonetised banknotes, they said.

"On the basis of complaint, we have arrested the manager and the cashier. A case under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the duo," Bathinda DSP (Phul) Gurjit Romana said.

Bathinda SHO (Rampura city) Paramjit Singh said the complainant had claimed that both the accused were allegedly misbehaving with the customers.
