PM's speech stressed on easier services for citizens, good governance, among others

Stressing on the need to have good governance along with providing qualitative services to the citizens of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day Speech at the Red Fort in New Delhi, said that it is time that we move from Swarajya (self rule) to Surajya (good rule). 

PM Modi also said that his government's mantra is to reform, perform, transform.

Stating that many senior leaders sacrificed their lives to attain Swarajya, now the shift to Surajya needs to be done quickly and in a fast-paced manner. “We need to increase the quality of work and speed up its implementation processes,” he said.

1) We remember Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, countless people who sacrificed their lives so that we attained Swarajya

2) Govt will eliminate the involvement of middlemen from agriculture. We are working towards building a common agriculture market 

3) Earlier, getting a passport will take months. Today, it is a matter of few weeks for you (citizens) to get a passport 

4) We are constructing 100 kms rural roads per day, which was 70-75 kms per day earlier 

5) Govt will induct 9,000 youth in government jobs on merit alone. 

6) In India, about 2 crore villages have seen construction of toilets now

7) In the last 60 years, 14 crore were given gas connections, while my government provided gas connections to over four crore people in just 60 weeks

8) Earlier, the income tax refund used to take a lot of time; today it takes not more than three weeks

9) We have connected 70 crore citizens to Aadhaar and other social security schemes
