Salt shortage rumours trigger panic buying spree in Western UP and Delhi-NCR

Salt shortage rumours triggered panic-induced buying spree in Western UP as some stores are selling salt at Rs 200/kg.

According to the reports, there are rumours that salt is eing sold at Rs 400/kg in various place of Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have assured that there is no shortage of salt in UP and strict action will be taken against those who are spreading such rumours. One person has been detained in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur for spreading rumours.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Hem Pande said there's no need to panic.

Moradabad DM has assured people that salt is not going to be sold even one rupee more than its original rate, so people should not worry about it. 

There have also been reports of panic buying in several parts of Delhi- NCR as well, that salt is being sold at Rs 250 per kg. But Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has denied it and said that some people are spreading rumours that there is shortage of salt and sugar, which is false.
