In the first meeting of the seven-member council, members would clear the air on the process of certification verification of the Eamcet-qualified students in the state, besides deliberating on the observations of the Telangana government-appointed task force for inspecting quality norms across private engineering colleges.
The Telangana government on Wednesday said the certificate verification of students would begin in the state on August 9, while the exercise kick-started across 34 helpline centres (HLCs) in Andhra Pradesh starting from today and will be completed by August 23, as announced by the APSCHE this week.
Chairman of the Telangana council, T Papi Reddy, who assumed office today, expressed the task force had scrutinised about 200 colleges and the process for the remaining was being fast-tracked to keep erring colleges out of the counselling exercise. The state is said to have around 400 operational engineering colleges.
Citing the observations of the task force, he said "a majority of colleges inspected were found falling short of academic staff, laboratories, other basic infrastructure and high student drop-outs". "In such an alarming scenario, we don't want to rush the admission process as it would only benefit these colleges."
According to Reddy, the Telangana government was confident that the Supreme Court bench would take into cognizance these concerns while giving its final verdict on August 11.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government has appointed two vice-chairmen, a secretary and four nominated members to the state's council for higher education.
