K K Ravi alias Sudhakar, a top Naxal leader of Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal (KKW) Zonal Committee was among those killed in the exchange of fire. Other top leaders present in the area managed to escape from the site.
"The security personnel received a specific tip off about the presence of Naxalites in Puarti forest area in Sukma district and planned the operation that took place in the early hours today," Deputy Inspector General of Police (anti-Naxal operations), Deepanshu Kabra, said. The area under Pammed police station adjoins Andhra Pradesh border.
