Government agencies and private millers procured more than 3.15 million tonnes of paddy till Wednesday evening of the previous week.
A spokesman of Punjab government said that out of total procurement in all the procurement centres of Punjab, government agencies procured 3.06 million tonnes (97.1 per cent) whereas private traders procured 92,754 tonnes (2.9 per cent) of paddy.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 159,659 tonnes (5.2 per cent). The spokesman added that District Ferozepur with 526,218 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district Jalandhar with 320,218 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Tarn Taran ranked at third position in terms of paddy procurement.
