Sector-specific theme parks and sub-cities to come up along the 135-km highway.
The Haryana government will develop a ‘global corridor’ along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway to set up sector-specific theme parks as well as sub-cities to ensure systematic economic development along the highway.
The 135-km-long KMP expressway passes through six districts of the state — Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal. The expressway, which is 100 metres wide, will have a green belt of 100 metres each on both sides of the road, with a 100-metre-wide Orbital Rail Corridor towards Delhi.
DPS Nagal, commissioner of Gurgaon division, recently met with the deputy commissioners of all the six districts, asking them to work out a cumulative plan envisaging all aspects of development along the expressway.
For Gurgaon district, the state government has proposed five theme cities — fashion city, entertainment city, a World Trade Centre, leisure city and a Retail Merchandiser Warehouse Center. Similarly, Sonepat district will have specialised activities like the Rajeev Gandhi Education City, Sonepat-Kundli Multifunctional Urban Complex. This apart, the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIIDC) is contemplating an IMT at Kharkhoda.
Likewise in district Jhajjar, theme parks like a cyber city, bio-sciences city and a medicity have been proposed. While a leisure and a leather city have been proposed for Mewat, Palwal district will have a dryport city.
Looking at the growth of the National Capital Region (NCR), the need of a global corridor was felt along the KMP expressway with state-of-the-art facilities which can act as catalysts for development and attract private participation for the development of the region.
The spatial plan of the corridor would be developed around a number of specialised economic activities which can trigger and sustain economic growth. A number of such cluster cities integrated under one umbrella will provide the over all spatial form of the urban corridor.
In between these nodes, recreational, forest and green areas will also be developed.
