The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will build a new terminal at the Biju Patnaik Airport here.
AAI Chairman V P Agarwal disclosed the plan during his meeting with Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.
"The construction work for the new terminal will start soon," Agarwal said, adding that AAI was taking steps to develop Jharsuguda airport as a private one.
He has asked the state government to provide 800 acres of land for the purpose at Jharsuguda.
This airport already has a 6,000-ft runway, which a private one requires, Agarwal said seeking support from the state government.
Stating that an airport at Jharsuguda would help boost industrial activity, Patnaik assured support for expediting work for the same.
He also urged Agarwal to develop two airstrips at Rasgobindpur in Mayurbhanj district and another at Jeypore in Koraput district.
