While Mysore district is gearing up to roll out the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme from July 1 to LPG consumers, the progress in seeding their Aadhar numbers has now progressed to reach a coverage of 80 per cent.

According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Mysore district has 501,927 LPG consumers. Dealers of the different oil companies have seeded Aadhar numbers of 403,258 consumers till June 19. During the same period, various banks in the district have seeded 302,934 Aadhar card numbers, reaching 60 per cent.

Disclosing this, statistical officer M B Pandey of the deputy commissioner's office here has asked bank officers and representatives of various oil companies at a review meeting to make sure that transfer of LPG subsidy to customers' bank accounts rolls out smoothly. The DBT would come into effect from July 1 in the district as directed by the Union Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas.

While the DBT has rolled out in other select districts from June 1, as proposed earlier, its implementation was put off by a month in Mysore district on account of the election to the Karnataka Assembly from the Periyapatna constituency which had to be put off following the death of the BJP candidate.

Pandey said, the district administration was prepared to extend any assistance to the gas agencies and banks for the effective implementation of DBT.

Banks should inform LPG consumers whether their Aadhar numbers have been seeded or not. Many consumers, particularly those in rural areas, were unaware that seeding of Aadhar numbers was compulsory to get LPG subsidy amount transferred to their bank accounts. It was the task of the dealers of oil companies and banks to educate the LPG consumers about this. Banks should set up drop-box and appoint a person exclusively for this job. Bank officers should participate in the awareness campaigns organised by the oil companies, said State Bank of Mysore Deputy General Manager Venkat Narayan.

The meeting asked those LPG consumers who have not handed over details of the Aadhar number and their bank account, to do so immediately and those who have not submitted their Aadhar number to their banks concerned to also comply with the same.

Those not having a bank account were asked to open a bank account and submit their Aadhar numbers. The bank account and Aadhar-seeded bank account given to the gas agency should be one and the same.

Drop boxes were provided at all gas agencies so that LPG consumers can drop copies of bank pass book, showing clearly the IFSC code, bank account number and name of the consumer, and their LPG consumer number. Gas companies had updated details of those who had already submitted these details. Consumers could verify the same with the gas agencies or in the transparency portals of websites, www.indane.co.in, www.hindustanpetroleum.com, www.ebharatgas.com.

Further details can be had from the sales officers of concerned gas agency whose mobile numbers are IOC-9448289974, HPC-9449041967 and BPC-9448282945.
