The government has set up an 'Advisory Group' to be headed by former Power Minister Suresh Prabhu for integrated development of the power, coal and renewable energy sectors in a bid to ensure 24x7 electricity supply to consumers.

The Ministry of Power, which has set a target to provide round-the-clock electricity supply to the people, has decided to form an "Advisory Group for Integrated Development of Power, Coal and Renewable Energy".

The Group, to be chaired by Prabhu, will have several distinguished experts from related sectors including ex-Central Vigilance Commission Pratyush Sinha, former Power Secretary R V Shahi and former CMD of Coal India Partha Bhattacharya.

Officials from Ministry of Power, Coal and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy would assist the Advisory Group as may be required, sources added.

The Advisory Group will deliberate on matters related to evolving a comprehensive policy framework for integrated development of power, coal and renewable energy sectors.

It will also work towards development of renewable energy and enhancing fuel supplies, among others.

Former Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had also formed an Advisory Group, whose members were Tata Power Chairman Cyrus Mistry, Reliance Power Chairman Anil Ambani, ICICI MD & CEO Chanda Kocchar, among others.
