With pressure mounting due to the deaths of weavers, the state government, which has got into a damage control mode, is wooing garment manufacturers to Sircilla in Karimnagar with sops like land at nominal costs, infrastructure and subsidised power. The industries department, last week, interacted with seven garment makers for setting up units in this town.

While one company has responded positively to the offer, five others are expected to take a call after inspecting the physical infrastructure, industries principal secretary (textiles) Sreelakshmi told Business Standard.

Accordingly, the Orient Craft Group is ready to set up a training facility complete with sewing machines and also with a buy back arrangement for three years. “The idea is to provide alternative employment in areas the weaver families are familiar with,” she said. This apart, RK Fashions, Sematic Garments, Cherma’s and Hindustan Apparels from Hyderabad and Texport Syndicate from Ahmedabad are keen on setting up units in Sircilla. These units propose to offer garmenting training, conduct workshops and create self employment opportunities besides providing marketing assistance.

BV Somasekhar, director general of Orient Craft, which in into woven, knit garments and readymades, has made a representation to the state government for conducting need-based human resources training.
