Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who will hold a high-level meeting  on energy efficiency shortly, is expected to give a road map to the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) to help in savings of between 15 per cent and 20 per cent of energy in future.

According to IYR Krishna Rao, state chief secretary and SECM chairman, the chief minister has also directed that a mechanism be developed to involve all the key departments like industries and agriculture to fix the accountability in achieving the desired goals.

Briefing Naidu on various energy efficiency improvement plans, the current power supply position and procurement of additional power here on Sunday, Rao said the utilities could supply 125 million units (MUs) as against the demand of 148 MU with a deficit of 23 MU.

“In the combined state, orders had been placed to purchase power to an extent of 1,750 Mw from private generating stations, of which AP is getting 800 Mw. In addition to this, the state government is making all out efforts to procure power from neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for July 2014,” he said.

Stating that orders had already been placed for 300 Mw (100 Mw from Karnataka and 200 Mw from Tamil Nadu), Rao said while power from Karnataka would flowing in from July 1, efforts were being made to get consent from Tamil Nadu for the remaining.
