The power utilities in Andhra Pradesh are putting in efforts to achieve adequate additional generation capacity, reduce transmission and distribution (T&D) losses to below 15% on par with the national standards and to realise energy savings of around 15,000 mullion units worth Rs 7,500 crore in a phased manner.

PK Mohanty, chief secretary (AP government) and chairman of State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), categorically disclosed that the government would continue vigorously the awareness programmes on factors like water, energy and environment to protect the interests of the future generations.

“Directions have been given to all district collectors to play a proactive role on these issues to realise the ultimate goal of protecting the nature,” he said.

The SECM was launched in Andhra Pradesh on September 26, 2012, at a time when the state was passing through a very serious energy crisis. Under SECM, the government is currently in the process of issuing the AP Energy Conservation Building Code, which is likely to come into effect from November 1, 2013.
