Apparel exports have increased by 18.1% in January to Rs 5,193 crore as compared to the same month last year due to growth in demand from countries like the US, an industry body today said.
The exports stood at Rs 4,398 crore in January 2010, the apex body of apparel exporters Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) said in a statement here.
"There was substantial increase in exports from previous month to countries like the US," it said.
US imports of apparel from India increased by 9.3% from January to December 2010 to $3.1 billion.
However, India's export to the European Union from January to December 2010 amounted to $5.56 billion with decline of 1.8%.
Similarly, Canada's imports of apparel from India from January to October 2010 accounted for $237 million with a decline of 9.2%, it added.
However, the cumulative exports from April-January showed a decline of five% at Rs 41,771 crore compared to Rs 39,787 crore in the corresponding period last year.
