BCCI shoots off letter to IPL franchises on domestic players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically instructed the 10 IPL franchises to stay away from getting into any kind of contractual obligations with the uncapped domestic players for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League till further notice.

It has been learnt that the BCCI is upset that most of the franchisee owners are in talks with uncapped domestic players who won't be up for auctions.

"Yes, we have received a communication from BCCI that we shouldn't get in talks with the uncapped players till BCCI announces the dates," a Delhi Daredevils official told PTI today.

He further added, "The BCCI has set some guidelines for signing the uncapped players and all the franchises are told to follow the rules."

An official from another franchise said, "The BCCI has mentioned in the letter that they are getting reports about teams striking deals with uncapped players and have said in no uncertain terms that we should stick to the guidelines. Till then any deal (MoUs) struck with the uncapped players will be deemed invalid."

However, the teams are still in dark as to when BCCI will start allowing them to sign the domestic players.

Interestingly, there have been reports some of the domestic players have been asking for exorbitant amount of money from the franchises.

A Tamil Nadu player, whose name was there in the auctions before it was removed as he didn't play for India, has reportedly asked for a remuneration of Rs 3.5 crore while in talks with some of the teams.
