"It will present a good opportunity for the students of our state," said Education Minister, PK Shahi in assembly, "as now they would not have to go to other states for quality education. Other hand, we will be able to save hundreds of thousands skilled manpower, who can contribute in the progress of the state."
He said, "We have a population of 108 million and out of them 50 per cent are below the age of 30 years. However, we do not have adequate number of seats in government universities. We also do not have enough resources. Therefore, allowing private institutions is the only way to promote higher education in the state."
As per the provisions of the bill, the promoters of these universities must have at least 5 acres of land, if they intend to set up their institutions in urban areas. For other areas, the requirement of land has been raised to 10 acres.
The state government has also made it clear that the cost of development of the institutions will be borne by the promoters only.
