- Notes of Rs1,000, Rs5,000, and Rs10,000 value were first taken out of circulation in Jan 1946.
- All three notes were reintroduced in 1954
- A year into the term, Janata Party leader Morarji Desai deemed the notes illegal for the second
- time, in Jan 1978
- Rs 1,000 note made a comeback in Nov 2000. Rs 500 note came into circulation in Oct 1987.
- Rs 200, Rs2,000 notes were launched in 2016
