The preparations for the Population Census 2011 for Chandigarh are in full swing. Census 2011 will be conducted in two phases. First, house-listing operations, and then population enumeration. The first phase will take place during April 1-May 15, 2010, the preparations for which are in full swing. During this phase, house-listing and housing census schedule and National Population Register (NPR) schedule will be prepared from information gathered from each and every household. The second phase will be held in February- March 2011.
The Chandigarh Administration has already designated the deputy commissioner as the principal census officer and sub-divisional magistrate (Central) as the district census officer along with other officers on various duties. They will act as the nodal department to coordinate the census activities.
The Centre has decided to create the NPR, which would contain information on specific data items for each and every individual in the country. Preparation of NPR is a unique and additional feature of Census 2011. When created, it would be a comprehensive database in the country. This information was given by the Directorate of Census Operation, Chandigarh.
