A team of eight doctors, with six from Delhi, will visit the two bird flu-affected villages of Nayamukundapur in Raghunathgunj Block II and Dohapara in Jiagunj block in Murshidabad on March 12.

The doctors were part of the rapid response team deployed to check spread of bird flu virus in humans, said one West Bengal health and family welfare department official.

The department beefed up surveillance in the two villages and sent health workers inspect individual households. "The health workers will collect blood samples from those suffering from fever and cough in the vicinity of poultry farms," the official said.

Meanwhile, the animal husbandry department would complete the task of culling 50,000 birds in the two villages on March 12, said Anisur Rahaman, animal husbandry minister of West Bengal."No fresh bird flu cases have been reported," he added.

Bengal would request the Centre to increase vigilance on the India-Bangladesh border to check smuggling of poultry from Bangladesh.

The animal husbandry department would compensate poultry owners for culling after inspecting their houses to avert fresh outbreak of flu.

Vigilance would continue for 90 days in the bird flu notified areas.

West Bengal had urged the Centre for waiver and restructuring of loans to state's poultry farmers, with subsidy and grants for fresh poultry loans.
