Centre's in-principle nod for two electronic clusters in AP

The Steering Committee on Clusters has approved to grant Rs 235.6 cr for the establishment of an eCity (Fab City)

The Steering Committee on Clusters (SCC) constituted by DietY (Department of Electronics and Information Technology) of the Union government has accorded in-principle approval for two electronic manufacturing clusters (EMC) proposed to be set up in Hyderabad.

According to state minister for information and communication technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah, the SCC has approved to grant Rs 235.6 crore for the establishment of an eCity (Fab City). The proposed greenfield cluster is estimated to cost Rs 580 crore.

To come up over an extent of 602.37 acres, the minister said eCity would have a special economic zone (SEZ) on 263 acre and a potential to generate direct and indirect employment for 35,000 and 210,000 people respectively.

The Electronics Industries Association of AP had shown interest and committed to invest a major part of the Rs 1,800-crore investment that is estimated to flow into the eCity, he said.

The minister told mediapersons on Monday the SCC had also agreed to grant Rs 142.5 crore to EMC at Maheshwaram proposed to be set up at a cost of Rs 360 crore.

Investment in the EMC was estimated to be around Rs 800 crore generating direct and indirect employment for 14, 000 and 84, 000 people respectively.

The third EMC proposed to be established at Parwada in Visakhapatnam in an area of 100 acre at an estimated cost Rs 100 crore was stated to be under the consideration of the Union government.
