The Mumbai police today filed an 11,000-page chargesheet on the terrorist attacks of November 26 last year, in which hundreds died, including nine of the 10 attackers.

Apart from Pakistani national Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist who was captured alive, several other Pakistan-based leaders of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have been named. They include Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah, who have been detained in Pakistan by government authorities, following the immense international pressure in the wake of the attacks. In all, 35 persons are named in the chargesheet.

Also named among the main accused is Fahim Ansari, among the eight LeT operatives arrested by the UP police, and who is alleged to have done the reconnaissance for the Mumbai operation.

America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation, which has contributed considerably to the framing of charges, also wishes to question Ansari.

Speaking to reporters outside the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said: “We will reply to Pakistan after the chargesheet has been filed.”
