Chhattisgarh achieves 94% of sowing target for kharif season

On the back of a good monsoon, Chhattisgarh has completed sowing of kharif crops over more than 45 lakh hectares of land, which is 94 per cent of the target set for the season, official sources said today.

Sowing of kharif crops has been completed over a 45.38 lakh hectare area in the state so far, the sources said.

The state has set a target for sowing kharif crops over 48.15 lakh hectares in the current monsoon season, the sources said, adding that 94 per cent of the goal has been achieved.

Paddy has been sown in an area of 35.24 lakh hectares, which is 99 per cent of the target fixed for the season, the sources said.
    
The state has already surpassed the goal for sowing soyabean in the current season. Against the target of bringing an area of 1.35 lakh hectares under soyabean cultivation, sowing has been completed in 1.49 lakh hectares so far, the sources said.
    
Sources in the state agriculture department said that 11 of the 15 districts of the state have received good monsoon rains, while four experienced rain deficiency.
