The Maoist menace notwithstanding, Chhattisgarh has emerged a as leading investment destination. In an interview with Sanjay Jog, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh says the state is safe for investments and the government is making all efforts to attract investors.
Investors want your government to ensure their safety in Chhattisgarh where Maoists are active. How are you addressing this issue?

Let me tell you Chhattisgarh is a safe state. Maximum investment is coming to the state. We are number one in industrial entrepreneur memoranda and also in actual investments. It is a peaceful state. In few areas, there were some naxal activities, but it is reducing rapidly.

Why has Chhattisgarh turned out be a favourite destination for investors?

It is true Chhattisgarh is being increasingly recognised as a leading brand for attracting investments in the country. Driven by an industry-friendly ecosystem, Chhattisgarh is a power-surplus state, rich in natural and mineral resources, low-cost industrial land with best fiscal incentives to set up business. The state is now focussing on non-core sectors such as agribusiness and food processing, automotive, defence and IT-ITES. It is providing new opportunities to MSME’s to prosper as well as facilitating an enabling ecosystem for larger industries.

What is Chhattisgarah's record on ease of doing business?

We have taken a number of steps in this regard. Chhattisgarh is ranked fourth in ease of doing business. Naya Raipur will be the flag bearer of resurgent Chhattisgarh. It will reflect the rich heritage and natural beauty of the state, and march ahead to become India’s best planned smart city.

There are ample natural resources including iron ore, bauxite, cheap power and therefore it will continue to attract investors. There is zero power cut, and power cost is 25% less compared with other states.

What will be the outcome of Make In India week for Chhattisgarh?

For the past two days, there are meetings with representatives of industries across the globe and ambassadors. I have also attempted to meet more than 40 groups explaining to them why Chattisgarh is one the best investment destinations.
