Chhattisgarh government will spend Rs 170 crore to build roads in the Naxal-infested areas of Bastar region.
The decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of Bastar Development Authority (BDA) that prepared an action plan of development in the insurgency-hit areas of the region. Chief Minister Raman Singh chaired the meeting.
Officials have been instructed to speed up development works such as construction of bridges in the infested areas, Singh said after the meeting. The government, however, plans to spend Rs 170 crore for the construction of concrete roads in the interior areas.
Singh said a new agency would be asked to start the road construction work while the state government would provide full-proof security to its personnel. Since the Border Roads Organisation had earlier failed to complete the road construction work in Bastar on time, the government would award the work another agency this time, Singh added.
