The Congress has retained the Tekkali constituency seat in Srikakulum after its candidate Korla Bharathi won the byelections. The byelections were needed following the death of MLA Revathipathi even before the swearing in.
Bharathi, who polled 59,250 votes, won with a 7,173 votes majority over her Telugu Desam rival K Atchannaidu, who polled 52,077 votes.
D Srinivas, candidate of Praja Rajyam secured the third place with 17,858 votes.
Speaking to the media here, chief minister K Rosaiah dedicated the victory to former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who died on September 2 in a helicopter crash. With this seat, Congress has won nine of the 10 Assembly seats in Srikakulam. “The victory reflects the good work done by the former chief minister,” the chief minister said. Both PRP and Lok Satta candidates lost their deposits.
