CPI(M) MP Jibon Roy has demanded a judicial enquiry into the killings of textile workers in police firing in Bangalore.
In a letter to Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Roy has alleged that the police resorted to brutal action at the behest of the management and even after firing on peacefully demonstrating workers, the police continued repression and arrested almost all Karanataka state functionaries of the Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU), including its general secretary. Roy has demanded that the state government, besides instituting a judicial enquiry, should pay proper compensations to the victims and the guilty officers should be suspended till the enquiry is over.
He also demanded that the government should amicably settle the dispute between workers and the management of the Valliappa Textile Ltd near Bangalore. Roy has requested the Prime Minister to take all measures to bring down commotion and see that workers are relieved from the sense of deprivity.
