The breakaway group of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress in Gujarat yesterday demanded the dismissal of the Suresh Mehta ministry saying it had ''lost majority support'' in the Assembly.A delegation consisting of leader of the Maha Gujarat Janata Party (MGJP) Dilip Parikh, leader of the opposition Amarsinh Chaudhary (Congress) and Mulrajsinh Parmar (independent) called on govenor Krishna Pal Singh immediatley after the assembly was adjourned and demanded the dismissal of the Mehta government.

In a house of 180, the bjp had a strengh of 120 which has been reduced to 74 following the recognition of the 46-member breakaway group by deputy speaker Chandu Bhai Dhabi earlier in the day.

Following the decision of the deputy speaker, the BJP now has a strength of 74, MGJP (46), the Congress (44) and independents (16).

Out of the 16 independents, 12 are backing the MGJP only two are siding with the BJP. The other two are in jail.
