In the backdrop of uncertainty over implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) across the country, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has convened a meeting of all private telecom firms on Tuesday to know how soon the service can start.MNP was scheduled to start from December 31, 2009, but has been delayed to March 31. Some service providers including two state-run telecom companies — BSNL and MTNL — had expressed their inability to implement MNP on schedule. This had forced the government to postpone its introduction by three months.
