"The lower volume of coal and coke imports in May...Is mainly due to a 1.2 MT of decline in non-coking coal imports during the month under review," mjunction said.
Government had said in April that it is aiming to bring down to "zero" thermal coal imports of power PSUs like NTPC in the current fiscal, a move that would reduce the country's import bill by around Rs 17,000 crore.
The government had said it would also convince the private companies operating in the power space to totally stop the import of thermal fossil fuel.
