Disagreeing with NDA ally Shiromani Akali Dal's suggestion for equal share to states in central taxes, JD(U) today said that its distribution should continue on the basis of population.
JD(U) President Sharad Yadav told PTI over phone, "Distribution of taxes from the Central government on the basis of population is just. How can anyone demand a change in this law saying that Bihar gets more share?"
Yesterday, SAD president and Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal had urged the Centre to distribute central taxes equally among the states.
Stressing the consumerist nature of Bihar, Yadav remarked most of the products consumed there are manufactured outside the state. Hence, it is obvious that Bihar pays a huge amount in taxes.
"Bihar has been badly hit after the state was divided. The Centre is biased against us and thus, we have been demanding a special status for Bihar. Had the Centre given us a package we would have developed Bihar," the NDA convener said.
Yadav also stressed that his government has been trying to create jobs in the state itself because of which a lesser number of workers are now migrating to Punjab.
