The Orissa government has achieved 70.4 per cent of its excise revenue collection target in the April-January period of 2010-11. Out of the targeted excise revenue of Rs 1050 crore set for this fiscal, the progressive collection till January has been Rs 739.18 crore.
In 2009-10, the state government had clocked excise revenue of Rs 848.96 crore, overshooting the target of Rs 800 crore.
This was informed in a written reply in the state assembly by Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, the state minister for finance & excise.
The excise revenue collection has been the highest for Khurda district at 92.01 per cent of the target, Out of the targeted Rs 51 crore set for the district, the actual collection wasRs 38.49 crore in the April-January period.
This is followed by Puri where the actual collection in the same period stands at Rs 10.23 crore against the targeted Rs 13 crore, representing an achievement of 78.71 per cent.
The districts where excise revenue collection has been unsatisfactory are Kandhamal (28.06 per cent), Malkangiri (36.59 per cent), Dhenkanal (38.23 per cent) Jagatsinghpur (40.84 per cent) and Nayagarh (41.77 per cent).
