Local Bodies Minister Choudhary Jagjit Singh today laid the foundation stone of a rail overbridge (ROB) project worth Rs 13.40 crore, to connect the interior parts of the city with the Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway.
 
"It was a long-pending demand of Jalandhar residents to construct the overbridge near DAV College. The project has been awarded to Mumbai-based Gammon India Ltd, which is already constructing the dream project of the Domoria bridge near the railway station," the minister told reporters after laying the foundation stone of overbridge.
 
He claimed that the project would be completed within the record period of eights months to facilitate the residents.
 
About the other developmental projects, Minister revealed that he has already sanctioned Rs 15 crore for sewerage and water supply project in the area of Maqsudan of the city. The state government was drafting developmental projects worth Rs 350 crore for Jalandhar to be submitted to the Prime Minister in the next meeting by the Chief Minister.
 
"Since PM has already announced a package for the development of Amritsar and Ludhiana, Jalandhar was still to get such package" Minister clarified revealing the projects would include Rs 158 crore project of elevated road from BMC Chowk to Kapurthala Chowk and Rs 100 crore project for water supply in the district.
