Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the central government of manipulating the GDP (gross domestic product) figures, saying those are "based on lies".

"The whole nation knows that the figures are manipulated. They are based on lies," Kejriwal told reporters in New Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's statement comes a day after the Congress also slammed the Centre, saying it "fudged figures" on India's GDP growth.

The official data released on Tuesday showed that India's GDP for the third quarter ending December 31 stood at Rs 30.28 lakh crore, recording a growth of seven per cent.

Kejriwal said the people of India had stopped trusting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government.

"When demonetisation was going on, every week they (central government) used to announce how many old notes had come back to the RBI (Reserve Bank of India). Now three months have passed and the Centre is still not making it public how many notes finally returned. They say the notes are still being counted," Kejriwal said.
