Government agencies and private millers procured more than 78,241 tonnes of wheat till last evening. Out of total procurement of 78,241 tonnes in all the procurement centres of Punjab, government agencies procured 77,358 tonnes (98.9 per cent) till date whereas private traders procured 883 tonnes (1.1 per cent) of wheat. Till April 7, Pungrain had procured 7,015 tonnes (9.1 per cent) whereas Markfed procured 17,619 tonnes (22.8 per cent), Punsup procured 25,074 tonnes (32.4 per cent), PSWC procured 5,380 tonnes (7.0 per cent) whereas PAIC was able to procure 13,559 tonnes (17.5 per cent) of wheat. The central government agency FCI had been able to procure 8,711 tonnes (11.3 per cent). The state government had set up 1,650 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, the spokesman added.
