The government plans to discuss and vote on two the banking (amendment) Bill on Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main Opposition party, has made it clear it will not vote in favour of the banking Bill because it claims a clause later inserted in the Bill could allow banks to do speculative trade. However, as BJP broadly supports the other provisions of the amended Bill, it is unlikely to actively block it. If the party walks out, the Bill might be passed by a voice vote. On the companies Bill, sources say, some back-channel work has already been done and chances are BJP would not obstruct this legislation.
