Media companies may have something to cheer about. The government is likely to review the direct-to-home (DTH) television services policy guidelines to make such a venture commercially viable and attractive to private investments.
The present policy on DTH, announced over a year back, has not been able to promote the growth of digital set top boxes and must be reviewed at the earliest, the 10th working group on the I&B ministry set up by the Planning Commission has said in its report.
It has also been pointed out that the policy on opening up of digital terrestrial television (DTT) should keep the financial viability of such projects in mind.
