On its way to becoming a major manufacturing hub in the country, Gujarat government is now planning to set up three clusters for precision engineering companies here at Sanand, Halol and Hansalpur.
"We are planning to have clusters for precision engineering companies at different places in the state. Around 100 hectares of land has been identified at Sanand and Halol each, and we are also planning to have one cluster near the upcoming Maruti plant at Hansalpur," informed M Sahu, principal secretary, industries and mines department of government of Gujarat.
He added that these companies are into making engineering products higher up in the value chain, and putting them in clusters would help the companies by having access to common facilities and infrastructure.
Precision engineering broadly refers to precision formed components, engineered fasteners and mechanical fastening systems, different kinds of valves that are used by a diverse range of industries including automotive, construction, aircraft, electronics, and transportation industries. The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate at Sanand already houses a medical devices cluster and a plastic park. The precision engineering clusters would come up at the GIDC estates at Sanand, Halol and Hansalpur, Sahu informed.
Punjab-based fastener makers have already evinced interest in investing close to Rs 1,000 crore in Gujarat.
A delegation of fastener makers from Punjab is scheduled to visit the state on September 15 to meet senior government officials in order to discuss issues related to land, approvals etc.
For precision engineering companies, Gujarat offers huge potential which houses major industries in the refinery, power and automobile sectors.
