The government is mulling introducing courses in food processing in ITIs across the country.

The food processing ministry was in discussions with the rural development and labour ministries in this regard, Minister for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahai said today.

ITIs would train at least five lakh women across the country on food processing, Sahai told an interactive session at the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce here.

The minister further said the food processing industry has the same potential of ushering in a revolution in the rural area as the IT sector has done in the urban sector.

The food processing sector was the only area where tax concessions were given in the budget.
