The Deve Gowda government will stick to the path of liberalisation. even if it costs the Prime Minister his job. This was amply conveyed by the 75-minute reply given by the Prime Minister to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President in the Rajya Sabha. Gowda decried the tendency on political parties to take populist stands on important issues.

Though he did not mention the Left parties by name, Gowda made it clear that the objections raised by them would not come in the way of the governments efforts on disinvestment of public sector entreprises and even sale of sick PSUs.
