Private sector leaders, however, were apprehensive that the defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) would capture most of the indigenous capital procurement. Baba Kalyani, head of Bharat Forge, pitched for transparency in the share of DPSUs vis-à-vis the private sector.
Mahindra Group’s S P Shukla pitched for raising the private sector’s share of capex to at least 15 per cent in 2021-22 and to 25 per cent by 2023–24.
Singh said that indigenous design and development was being promoted by according the highest priority to acquisitions under the “Buy (Indian — Indian Designed, Developed and Manufactured)” procurement category.
“During the current financial year, Rs 75,000 crore worth of Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) have been accorded out of which 87 per cent relate to Make in India acquisitions,” said Singh.
