In a bid to make the city an 'infotech hub' on the lines of Bengaluru, Madhya Pradesh minister Rajendra Shukla today laid the foundation stone for a Rs 50-crore IT park here.

The park, spread over 2 lakh square feet, will be built at a cost of Rs 50 crore. The foundation stone was laid on the eve of Global Investors' Summit (GIS) in the city.

Finance Minister Jayant Mallayya, who is also District Guardian Minister, was present on the occasion.

Shukla said the state government was making efforts to turn Indore into the third most prominent IT destination in the country after Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The Industries minister said the government was hopeful that IT majors Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys would set up their campuses at Indore by the first half of 2017.

A deadline of 18 months has been set to commission the new IT park, Indore Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam Managing Director Kumar Purshottam said.
