Jharkhand upgrades infrastructure to combat Maoists

In order to fight against the Maoists more effectively in the hide-outs of Jharkhand forests, the state government has decided to build adequate infrastructures for the security forces in Jharkhand.

Permanent barracks and helipads for Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be built at strategic sites. The multi -crore projects will be undertaken by Central government sponsored scheme - Scheme for Special Infrastructure (SIS).

The state-run Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited (JPHC) had invited tenders to build 25-bed barracks for the CRPF in several sites of West Singhbhum districts. The concerned department has started the evaluation work in finalizing the contracts to award it to the eligible bidders. Official source said that some of the barracks would by ready by March, 2013.

Presently, no permanent buildings were erected for the security forces.The CRPF companies are now living in tents made with asbestos roofs in the jungle areas where a good number of jawans had fallen ill in malaria and dengue after being beaten by mosquitoes. The Saranda forest, which is considered as Asia’s biggest sal forests, spread across 700 hills in Jhartkhand and Oriss, is largely considered to be a malarial-prone .
