The Madurai Railway division recorded a total earning of Rs 412 crore in 2008-09 against last year's earnings of Rs.329 crore, divisional railway manager Anil Singhal said.
Addressing the 54th railway week celebrations here last night, he said Rs 7 crore worth of works for providing better passenger amenties had been completed. Besides works worth Rs 20-crore were progressing in the division.
The broad gauge conversion work had been completed from Manamadurai-Rameswaram; Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur and Dindigul to Kodai Road. The BG conversion work between Kodairoad and Dindigul would be completed by May. Electrification of Tiruchi-Madurai track would be completed by March 2010. Passenger and goods traffic have registered 'impressive growth.
