The situation in Nainan Mallikpara area where two persons were killed and 40 injured in mob violence and police firing remained tense but under control on Friday, police said.

The condition of one of the injured identified as Khokan Mondal was critical in Chittaranjan hospital in Kolkata. The Rapid Action Force deployed after the violence was being withdrawn from the area under Mograhat police station in South 24 Parganas district. However, police patrolling was on. A Trinamool Congress team led by its General Secretary Mukul Roy visited the Diamond Harbour hospital where several injured villagers and policemen were admitted.

Senior CPI(M) leaders Abdur Rezzak Mollah, MLA, and former minister Kanti Ganguly would be visiting the village, party sources said. Meanwhile, SUCI(C), electoral ally of the ruling TC, has called for a 12-hour Mograhat bandh tomorrow in protest against the police firing.
