Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that more efforts were needed to increase private and foreign investment to North East and held insurgency as a hurdle in the region's development process.
"Insurgency is a problem. It is not easy to make the region insurgency free. But insurgency is linked to lack of development," Mukherjee told PTI here.
The new investment policy (for NE) has been announced quite some time back. People are showing interest. The infrastructure development is also taking place, he said last night.
Maintaining that the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) was working to attract investment, the minister said, "But, more push is needed to ensure more private and foreign investment."
