Mukherjee to meet PSU bankers of North zone on Oct 28

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will review the performance of the PSU banks that are based in North India on October 28.

This would be the second meeting in the series of zonal review initiated by the Finance Minister. The first one is scheduled to take place at Kolkata on October 24.

The Minister will review the performance of the public sector banks headquartered in the region. The meeting would be attended by the Chairmen and Managing Directors and other officials of Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, and Punjab & Sind Bank.

The Managing Directors and officials of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and State Bank of Patiala would also be present in the meeting.

Besides, the meeting would also be attended by chief executives of financial institutions like Nabard, Sidbi, National Housing Bank and IIFCL.

The meeting will take stock of the financial performance of the PSU banks and financial institutions. It would also dwell upon credit flow to the productive sectors, official sources said.

The broad agenda of the meeting include review of interest rates, credit growth and agriculture credit, they said.

Among others, infrastructure lending, capital adequacy over medium term and housing and education loans would also be taken up in the meeting, sources said.

The meeting would also assess the impact of the three stimulus packages given by the government in the last term.
