Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav yesterday said his newly formed Rashtriya Janata Dal would remain in the United Front, support the Gujral government and he would seek a confidence vote in the Assembly, if needed, even with Congress support.
He said he would approach the election commission for recognition of the RJD. Matters like symbol for the new party were under discussion, he added. 'There is no question of letting me remain or not in the front. If somebody feels that I am not needed, then I also don't need them. I am in the front basically for the fight against communalism,' he told a news conference here a day after he launched his Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Claiming that the entire 166-member Janata Dal legislature party in Bihar was with him and there was no need for him to submit a list of supporting MLAs to the Governor, he said he would prove his majority when the state Assembly meets from July 14. Asked whether he would take Congress support, Laloo Prasad Yadav said 'if needed Congress will support me. What is wrong in Congress support.?
The United Front government is surviving on Congress support.'
He made it clear that his party would support the Gujral government without any condition. 'Irrespective of who is disputing my presence in the Front or not, my decision is to support the Gujral government. No amendment or change under any circumstances,' he added.
Asked about the reported reservations among the Left parties and the
chairman of the Front, H D Deve Gowda about the entry of the RJD into the front, Laloo Prasad Yadav said that he would attend the Front steering committee meeeting on July eight.
'Why should I be afraid of attending the meeting. I am there. I have only renamed my party as the RJD. Give me one reason why they will object to my entry,' he said adding he would attend the meeting if time permitted. And he would also not go to any place uninvited.
