The Centre has sanctioned Rs 39.95 crore for developing heritage tourism in Mysore. Under the scheme, development of the Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall, construction of 526 underground parking facilities, and improvement of the roads around the palace will be taken up in March, transport minister R Ashok said in Mysore.
Participating in the Republic Day celebrations at the Chimed Vihar Stadium, he said the Mysore City Corporation had proposed construction of a swimming pool of international standard at a cost of Rs 7 crore at the Subbaranakere, the Freedom Fighters’ Memorial Park. A private swimming pool in dilapidated condition was recently demolished by the corporation at this place.
Under Suvarna Gramodaya Scheme, Rs 36.98 crore had been spent in the 46 villages where it was proposed to spend Rs 47.30 crore in the first stage for village development. About 3,916 houses were built under rural housing at an expenditure of Rs 10.11 crore, 358 houses at a cost of Rs 1.49 crore under Ambedkar rural housing scheme and 3,253 houses by spending Rs 13.02 crore under Indira Awas housing scheme were built so far in the district.
As many as 278,956 children were being provided mid-day meals under the Akshara Dasoha Programme for which Rs 12.38 crore was being spent. Rs 7.65 crore was deposited in the name of 3,993 selected women beneficiaries under the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme in the district, the minister said.
Mysore district was ahead of other districts in undertaking several development works related to literacy, education, health, drinking water supply, roads, drainage, housing, hygiene, urban and rural development. Several schemes either were already implemented or were under execution. The government was committed for the development of the district, Ashok said.
